Lonely House

Description

Lonely House is the sophomore album by the American alternative rock/hard rock band Grammatrain, released on Forefront Records in 1995, distributed by Chordant Distribution Group. The album was recorded at Avast! Recording Co., Audio Genesis and Bad Animals in Seattle, Washington; and was produced by Aaron Sprinkle (of Poor Old Lu) and the band. Mixed by Sprinkle.

Grammatrain is a great example of an indie band that’s built up its reputation in the “minor leagues;” i.e., through local and regional concerts. In 1994, the Seattle-based group put out a very accomplished and entertaining independent disc which held out the promise that more seasoning and a bigger budget would find it ready for “the big leagues.” Happily, ‘Lonely House’ makes good on that promise. Grammatrain revisits the same studio where it cut its early tunes, calling once again on Aaron Sprinkle of poor old lu to produce. Even though the group has re-recorded nearly all the songs from its indie disc, the updated versions sacrifice none of the spontaneity or aggressive attack which made the originals so entertaining. The band bears a passing resemblance to fellow newcomers Johnny Q. Public, combining classic rock sludge with grunge attitude and alternative songwriting smarts. Clever, provocative lyrics, massive hooks and extra-large production values distinguish this first-rate debut. [Bruce A. Brown, CCM, November 1995]
