Description
It Took a Long Time to Get to You is the solo debut album by the American singer and songwriter Ed Raetzloff, released on NewPax Records in 1980, distributed by Word. The album was recorded by Brent King, Mike Psanos, and Warren Peterson at Sound Stage Studios in Nashville, Tennessee; and was produced by Steve Aune with Joe Wilson. Mixed by Joe Wilson at Glaser Sound Studios in Nashville. All songs written by Ed Raetzloff.
The NewPax label’s honorable venture into the Southern rock market. Ed had paid his dues in a group called Blue Jug, recording a couple mid-’70s big-label albums and making the rounds with bands like Lynyrd Skynyrd, Allman Brothers, and Charlie Daniels Band. As you might expect this recording has a slightly more cleaned-up “Christian rock” sound than his secular counterparts; nevertheless, it often kicks some serious butt, much more than you’d expect from a guy in a white shirt, tie and suspenders. Some fine boogie and blues jamming alongside rural-aired classic rock. A couple quieter acoustic numbers but thankfully no token MOR ballads. Includes a reference to “that fine Columbian”, in the context of a BC lifestyle naturally. Released a second album in 1981 called Drivin’ Wheels. [Ken Scott, The Archivist, 4th edition]
