Description
Born Yesterday is the sophomore album by the American folk/pop group The New Folk (“The New Folk, a ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ, International, San Bernardino, California.“), independently released in 1968. The album was recorded by Larry Benson at Benson Sound Studios in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; with Garmon Kimmell producing. Vocal and orchestra arrangements by Mike O’Martian (a.k.a. Michael Omartian).
Now here we go, this is considerably more interesting. Born Yesterday still for the most part follows that happy Crusader “now sound”, but this time with the added punch of two heavy rock-minded tracks: «Love Comes Down» and a cover of «Let’s Get Together», both with rough snarling fuzz action alongside the groovy guy/gal pop harmonies. Outside of that, it’s an acceptable though sometimes stylistically clashing mishmash that includes ‘60s folk («Jordan’s River», «Come The Day»), jazz (the lively jamming instrumental «Blues To Sandi»), orchestrated MOR («Come With Me») and brassy pop-rock («Help Us Change The World», the title track). Also a medley of the Association hits «Windy» and «Never My Love». [Ken Scott, The Archivist, 4th Edition]
