Description
Praise the Lord in Many Voices, sub-titled A Recorded Performance in Carnegie Hall, Part II, is a multi-artist album released on Avant Garde Records in 1967. It’s a three part series also featuring Part I and Part III.
More Carnegie Hall live performances. Side one is jazz pianist Mary Lou Burley (aka Mary Lou Williams) joined by other instrumentalists and a chorus. After a lengthy narrated introduction and a swinging Ramsey Lewis ‘In Crowd’-type instrumental, she performs three of her “modern spirituals” – excellent blendings of jazz and black gospel that’ll be sure to get your feet moving. The other side features Paul Quinlan following up his two fine LPs with more of his catchy folk psalms, this time in a trio format of two guitars and upright bass, with harmonized vocals.
