This is Not a Dream

Description

This is Not a Dream is the sophomore album by the American singer and songwriter Pam Mark Hall, released on Aslan Records in 1977, distributed by Gospel Media. The album was recorded by Dennis Drake at United Western Studios in Hollywood and by Gradie O’Neal at Tiki Studios in San Jose, California; with Dan Collins producing. Mixed by Dennis Drake and George Belle. Strings arranged by Clark Gassman.

This Is Not A Dream is slightly more piano-based than Flying. The rich string orchestration on «Not My Will» combined with resonant acoustic guitar stirs emotion as it deals with Christ’s prayer in Gethsemane – the kind of classical approach that sets apart artist like Michael Card from the adult contemporary norm. Elsewhere though the strings can tend to overly sweeten the mood toward CCM. Some respectable light rock songs here, including «Leading Lady», «Carpenter’s Son», and «Don’t Believe What You Doubt». Al Perkins’ steel guitar brings a mellow country edge to «Humble Yourself». Background vocals include John Fischer and Jamie Owens-Collins. Another striking cover painting showing Pam beneath a sword-bearing angel. [Ken Scott, The Archivist, 4th Edition]
